The company spends a big effort in establishing and sustaining high standards in environmental, quality and safety areas in order to protect the nature, provide a safe work atmosphere for its employees as well as its neighbors, and sustain high quality products and sound company image.
Cognis Global SHEQ Management guarantees the implementation of its worldwide standards. Local SHEQ Managements on country basis is in continuous relation and communication with the Global SHEQ Management. The Global SHEQ Management as well as the local ones aims at establishing main objectives regarding nature, quality, safety and health in line with the Global Cognis Vision.
Cognis Kimya in Turkey also has a structure with similar objectives and is not only limited with Global perspectives but also initiates systems and principles for its specific needs. Cognis Kimya has determined the emissions and made investments to keep these emissions below the legal limits. Moreover, Cognis Kimya is still spending efforts to further reduce the emissions. The site has a wastewater plant and investments were made in the year 2001 to increase its efficiency. On the other hand projects to reduce the amount of wastewater discharge is still being carried out.
Cognis Kimya in Turkey has kicked-off the Total Productive Maintenance project (TPM) as a complementary system to Total Quality Management as of 2006 to improve all management systems with a primary focus on areas of production. Focused Improvement, Autonomous Maintenance, Planned Maintenance, Training, Safety/Hygiene & Environment, Indirect Departments, Quality and New Equipment/Product Management pillars have been established and will be working for at least three years until the first stage of objectives have been realized.
Safety and health is as important as the environment for Cognis. Thus, one of the main objectives is to reach “zero” industrial accident rate at our site in Turkey. Continuous safety trainings, applications and systems to prevent accidents are being provided. Cognis Kimya has succeeded to decrease the accident rate in the last three years more than 100 % and almost have reached the “0” accident rate. Cognis believes that company assets are also important and an Emergency Response Team has been established to prevent fires as well as to control all emergency situations. This team gets trainings and attends to drills in order to improve their know-how and effectiveness.
The company doctor as well as health officer provides close supervision regarding the health of our employees. Periodical controls as well as check-ups are being organized. This team also supervises all health related aspects of our site.
Today, product quality alone does not guarantee total quality. The expectations of all related stakeholders are increasing on the other hand environmental and social welfare problems are augmenting. It is not hard to see that those companies, which are not aiming total quality, could hardly sustain their existence.
