Our factory in Thailand

The state-of-the-art plant, operational since 1998, is situated in Bangpakong on the outskirts of Bangkok and employs 180 members of staff, it has achieved certifications in the ISO 9001 for its quality management system; the ISO 14001 for its environmental management system; and the SA 8000 for Social Accountability. Cognis Thai is the first company in the Thai chemical industry and in the worldwide Cognis Group to have achieved certification in the SA 8000 system.

Most recently, Cognis Thai has achieved certification for the OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health Safety Assessment System) and was the first amongst the worldwide Cognis Group to achieve the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).The plant has a production capacity of over 100,000 tons, thereof 75,000 tons in sulfation and over 40,000 tons in batchprocess capacity, which are available for esterification, betainization and blending. During the year 2002, Cognis Thai moved forward with capacity extensions to its production facilities, installing additional betainization facility as well as a second sulfation reactor, as a part of its strategy to reach new customers in the detergents,toiletries, home care, and industrial market segments.

As recent trends have seen, many players in the consumer products industry consolidate manufacturing to take advantage of operating cost benefits in countries such as Thailand, and the annual demand growth for surfactants in Asia is generally seen as significant compared to the global growth.
