Cognis Invites IFT Attendees to Calculate the Benefits of Going Natural with Vitamin E
Cognis, the longest-standing supplier of natural-source vitamin E, invites IFT attendees to its booth #342 to compare firsthand the economic, health and marketing benefits of formulating with the natural form of vitamin E versus the synthetic version.
“We often hear from food manufacturers that it’s not economical to add natural vitamin E to their product,” said Carrie Potaczek, Global Vitamin E Manager, Cognis Nutrition & Health. “We’re here to set the record straight.” Ms. Potaczak explained that the calculations often surprise manufacturers once they realize the nominal cost per serving difference between formulating with natural and synthetic vitamin E. “When you consider the marketing benefits to be gained from natural vitamin E given consumers’ growing interest in natural products, making the switch is smart business.”
The U.S. National Academy of Sciences has officially recognized that natural vitamin E is twice as potent and retained twice as well as synthetic. So, to achieve the Recommended Daily Allowance, potentially half as much natural vitamin E is needed compared to using a synthetic version, offering manufacturers tremendous value, according to Ms. Potaczak.
Cognis’ Covitol® Natural-Source Vitamin E and Covi-ox® Natural Mixed Tocopherols comprise the most complete line of natural-source vitamin E products available in non-GM, IP-certified forms. Research shows that vitamin E, besides being an essential nutrient, contributes to healthy aging, and benefits heart, brain, immune and eye health. Covitol® natural-source vitamin E is GRAS for a broad range of foods including baked goods, meat and poultry. Covi-ox® includes the market’s highest concentration of mixed tocopherols, the natural forms of vitamin E provided in their unaltered tocopherol ratios. Covi-ox® natural mixed tocopherols are GRAS for applications including baked goods, meat, and poultry, and are acceptable for use in organic products.
