Vegapure® recipes for rye bread
As a global leader in plant sterol processing, Cognis Nutrition & Health is now offering customers tailor-made recipes with ingredients from its Vegapure® range for use in rye bread, rye rolls, and rye-based crisp bread.
The recipes, which use Vegapure® FTE finely-ground sterols and Vegapure® 95 E sterol esters, contain an optimum amount of plant sterols, but do not alter the taste and texture of the breads. Cognis has also developed analytical methods to extract and determine the levels of plant sterols and plant sterol esters present in the final foods after the baking process.
Vegapure for supplements too
Cognis Nutrition & Health is pioneering a new category of cholesterol-lowering food supplements in Asia with the development of a three-a-day chewable tablet formulation using Vegapure® FTE free plant sterols, a non-GM ultra-fine powder. Plant sterol supplements are already successful in the United States but foods currently dominate the market for cholesterol-lowering products in Europe and Asia.
However, as a large number of consumers still do not achieve their appropriate cholesterol levels, there are clearly huge opportunities in both sectors. Food supplements will be particularly beneficial for those who are lactose intolerant or those who simply prefer a supplement formulation.
