German VersionCognis Innovation Award (Bronze): Cetiol® CC – a dry emollient with outstanding performance across a range of applications
Today’s consumers demand skin and hair care products that are both functional and sensorial; for example, sun blocks should combine UV protection with moisturizing properties and leave the skin soft and smooth. To achieve this, manufacturers need multifunctional ingredients, and that is exactly what Cognis offers in the shape of Cetiol® CC. Suitable for use in both skin and hair care products, this new emollient meets market requirements in a way unmatched by any other product currently available. In recognition of this, the project team responsible for its development has received this year’s Bronze Cognis Innovation Award.
The trend in skin and hair care products these days is very much towards formulations that feel soft and light on skin and hair. However, until now manufacturers had found it difficult to source emollients that meet these sensorial requirements while possessing the necessary functional properties. For example, sun care manufacturers were having to compromise when formulating their products between the right feeling on the skin and the optimum level of sun protection. Cetiol® CC makes a significant contribution to ensuring products can deliver optimum sensorics and functionality simultaneously.
World’s first light carbonate-based emollient
Cetiol® CC is suitable for a whole array of applications, including facial and body care products, hair and skin cleansers, deodorants, make-up and lipsticks, sun protection products, and massage oils. It can also bring significant performance benefits to aerosol sprays, improving stability by increasing the solubility of perfumes and propellants and making the spray feel softer and drier on the skin.
Comments team member Bettina Jackwerth, Cognis’s Global Marketing Director Skin Care: “Cetiol® CC surpassed all our expectations, with outstanding performance in areas such as UV filter solubility, sensorial perception and effectiveness in skin-cleansing formulations. Allied to its exceptional versatility, the performance benefits it offers Cognis’s customers has enabled Cetiol® CC to achieve broad international market penetration in a very short space of time.”
